Tokyo’s Shinjuku Ward plans to ban short-term rentals in residential areas and near cultural sites amid complaints from residents about poor visitor behaviour.
According to The Mainichi, Shinjuku Ward in central Tokyo has the country’s largest concentration of vacation rentals. Under the proposed restrictions, around 2 000 short-term rentals could be forced to cease operations.
Shinjuku ward is home to the Kabukicho nightlife district and one of the busiest railway stations.
