Train travel round up

Poland launches vintage train rides

Polish state rail operator, PKP, will launch vintage-style train rides during the northern summer season to celebrate its 25th anniversary.

PKP will operate a series of journeys along picturesque routes in restored 1980s trains, featuring restored historic locomotives and vintage-style passenger carriages with their original interiors from the communist-era rail network.

Travellers can also experience a period-style dining offering in the restaurant car, which will include dishes from that era, according to TravelMole.

The weekend-only service will begin on April 17 and operate more than 40 trips across Poland.

New high-speed Germany-Austria link

Deutsche Bahn has partnered with Austrian Federal Railways, ÖBB, to offer a new high-speed rail link between Germany and Austria.

The new high-speed trains provide 444 seats, including 367 second-class seats and 77 in first class, and offers passengers free Wi-Fi, a modern passenger information system, eight bicycle spaces and strong accessibility features, including integrated lifts and four wheelchair spaces.

The new line reduces travel times, as the trip between Graz and Klagenfurt is now just 41 minutes, while the journey between Graz and Munich takes under six hours. Five daily train services operate in each direction.
