The UK is extending rail cancellation rules allowing passengers to switch to another operator’s services without paying for a new ticket.
Passengers affected by a cancellation can use another operator’s trains without downloading a new ticket, as long as the service departs within two hours before or after the original cancelled train.
The policy now applies to including c2c, LNER, Gatwick Express, Greater Anglia, Northern, Southeastern, Southern, Thameslink, South Western Railway, TransPennine Express and West Midlands Railway.
From September 20, it will be extended to CrossCountry, Great Western Railway, Avanti West Coast and Chiltern Railways.
New Birmingham-Manchester Airport service
London Northwestern Railway will launch a direct Birmingham to Manchester Airport service by May next year, extending the existing Crewe-Stoke-Stafford service at both ends.
The first stage of the project will be completed in December, with services running south to Birmingham New Street and calling at 12 stations in both directions.
The direct airport link is expected to be completed in May 2027.
