AVIS has launched its first GDS Travel Index – a report revealing GDS booking trends in the airline, hotel and car rental sectors.
The index shows a year-on-year growth (Aug 2012-2013) for the hotel and airline industries of approximately 8% and 6% respectively. Meanwhile, car rental bookings declined by approximately 1%.
Executive of sales, Lance Smith, said the slump in car rental bookings was representative of a drop in corporate and government travel over the past year and a still struggling economy. He added that the growth in airline bookings was likely as a result of more LCC inventory being made available on the GDS. Meanwhile, hotel bookings saw a slow but steady increase.
The report will be published quarterly.
