Tsogo reopens Vic Junction

17 Feb 2022

Tsogo Sun Hotels has welcomed the newly rebranded Garden Court Victoria Junction into its portfolio.

The industrial-chic Green Point hotel opened its doors today (February 15). In November last year the Protea Hotel by Marriott Victoria Junction closed and handed the property back to HPF Properties, which is owned by Tsogo Sun.

“The impact of COVID-19 on the hospitality industry has been unprecedented. Travel restrictions and social distancing efforts around the world have resulted in weaker demand and economic uncertainty,” said Area Vice-President of Marriott International, sub-Saharan Africa, Volker Heiden, at the time.

The iconic hotel has now reopened under the Tsogo brand and comprises 172 well-appointed rooms (including split-level superior lofts), meeting space for up to 120 people, and the contemporary Connexxion restaurant.

Located next to the V&A Waterfront, the Cape Town CBD, and near the Cape Town International Convention Centre, Garden Court Victoria Junction joins Tsogo Sun Hotels as the tourism industry begins to recover from the devastating impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in the last two years.

A notable increase in domestic business and leisure travel, combined with early but encouraging signs of a recovery in international visitors, was cause for optimism, said Marcel von Aulock, Tsogo Sun Hotels CEO.

“We are excited to bring over 50 years of expertise in the hospitality industry to this vibrant part of Cape Town, and particularly to add our great value Garden Court brand to its presence, which we believe will enhance the property’s unique personality.”
