Uber is planning to launch autonomous vehicle (AV) rides in cities across Asia, Europe and the US by the end of 2026.
In its earnings call presentation, Uber CEO, Dara Khosrowshahi, revealed that the ride-hailing app would launch the vehicles in destinations including London, Zurich, Madrid, Munich, Los Angeles, Houston, San Francisco Bay Area and Hong Kong this year.
The company currently has autonomous vehicles in the UAE, Saudi Arabia and selected US cities.
“With the benefit of learning from multiple AV deployments around the world, we're more convinced than ever that AVs will unlock a multitrillion-dollar opportunity for Uber. AVs amplify the fundamental strengths of our platform; global scale, deep demand density, sophisticated marketplace technology and decades of on-the-ground experience matching riders, drivers and vehicles,” said Khosrowshahi.
