United Airlines has announced changes to its United Club membership, hiked the annual fees and limited access to the carrier’s airport lounges.

According to the airline, effective March 24, United Club offers two tiers of United Club membership: United Club Individual and United Club All Access.

United Club Individual members receive access to all United Club locations, excluding partner lounges. Guest access is not permitted.

United Club All Access Membership members may bring into any United Club location, one adult guest and dependent child under the age of 18, or up to two adult guests.

From May 1, one-time passes may be used for entry only during the three hours immediately prior to the scheduled departure time of the flight. This time limit does not apply to the period between two connecting flights on the same itinerary.

New pricing

The annual price for Individual members is US$750 (R13 680) or 94 000 miles.

The annual price for All Access members is US$1 400 (R25 530) or 175 000 miles, but Premier 1K members pay a discounted fee of US$1 200 (R21 885) or 150 000 miles.

One-time passes cost U$59 (R1 075) per guest.

Previously, United Club annual fees peaked at US$650 (R11 855) or 85 000 miles.

These new prices are effective for all annual memberships purchased from March 24.
