United suspends JFK services

United Airlines has announced that it will suspend its services to New York’s JFK International Airport.

The last inbound flight will take place on October 29, after which the airline will no longer offer flights to and from the airport, citing that its schedule there is too small to remain competitive, reports News Daily

“Given our current, too-small-to-be-competitive schedule out of JFK – coupled with the start of the winter season where more airlines will operate their slots as they resume JFK flying – United has made the difficult decision to temporarily suspend service at JFK," said the airline.

Last month the airline said it would suspend services at the airport if it were unable to get additional allocations for multiple seasons. Read here.

The airline has been operating four flights a day out of the airport, two to Los Angeles and two to San Francisco, since it returned to the airport early last year.

It has reportedly assured the around 100 employees currently working at JFK that they will be relocated to other nearby airports, and are in no danger of losing their jobs, reports Simple Flying

According to its memorandum, it will also work with travellers who are scheduled to fly into or out of JFK after the end of this month, to ensure that alternative arrangements are made.
