UPDATE

In the June 7 issue of TNW, in the article, ‘Travel insurance – agents’ fees must fall’ Jason Veitch,
head of travel insurance of TIC, was misquoted. Jason says he agrees it is illegal for travel agents to
charge additional fees on travel insurance policies. If an agency has been doing so then it should
stop immediately as this sort of activity does not help travel insurers when they engage with the FSB.
He says all travel insurers can attest to the professional service that consultants perform, however
this does not mean that extra fees can be charged by consultants. Furthermore, he says the travel
insurance community continues to engage with the FSB on amending the current legislation to ensure
the legitimacy of the consultant selling policies to their clients.
