The US Embassy in Harare has paused all visa application services, effective August 8.
The US State Department claimed that it had halted all immigrant and non-immigrant visa services, while it addresses concerns with the Zimbabwean government.
“The Trump Administration is protecting our nation and our citizens by upholding the highest standards of national security and public safety through our visa process. We are always working to prevent visa overstay and misuse,” said the embassy.
According to the embassy, most diplomatic and official visas will still be processed.
While the State Department and Harare embassy have not announced when visa applications will resume, they said applicants with scheduled visa interviews would receive information once their appointments could be rescheduled.
This announcement comes days after the US revealed a visa bond pilot project for nationals from Malawi and Zambia, as reported by Travel News.
