In a letter on January 11, the United States Department of Homeland Security announced the termination of Ebola screening for travellers from Uganda, effective from that date.
On October 12, 2022, the US had implemented Ebola screening for all passengers who had travelled from Uganda or who had visited the country within 21 days of their entry date into the US.
No new cases of the virus have been confirmed in Uganda since November 27 last year and two 21-day incubation periods have passed since the last confirmed case. On January 11, the country declared that the Ebola outbreak caused by the Sudan ebolavirus was over.
The US decision to terminate arrival restrictions comes as potential risk of exposure to the virus in Uganda is now diminished.
