Viking floated out its newest ship for the River Nile, Viking Thoth, marking a construction milestone and the first time the ship has touched water.
The traditional float-out ceremony was held at Massara shipyard in Cairo. The ship will now be moved to a nearby outfitting dock for final construction and interior build-out.
Set for delivery in October, the Viking Thoth will accommodate 82 guests in 41 staterooms and feature a square bow and an indoor/outdoor Aquavit Terrace. The ship will be Viking’s eighth river vessel in Egypt.
The ship will sail Viking’s popular 12-day ‘Pharaohs & Pyramids’ itinerary, which includes three nights in Cairo and eight days on a roundtrip cruise from Luxor. The itinerary includes visits to iconic sites such as the Great Pyramids of Giza, the tombs of Tutankhamen and Nefertari, the Temple of Khnum and a colorful Nubian village.
Viking plans to welcome four new ships in Egypt in the next two years, bringing Viking’s fleet to 12 vessels on the Nile by 2027.
