British hotel chain Premier Inn has analysed Instagram hashtag data from over 1 000 locations to unveil the biggest ‘Instagram hotspots’ in the world.

Africa

Tunisia's Sidi Bou Said tops the list as Instagram's most popular landmark in Africa with 405 241 posts, beating Jardin Majorelle in Marrakesh (263 975).

Known for its cobbled streets and striking blue and white buildings, similar to those found in Santorini, Greece, Sidi Bou Said overlooks the Gulf of Tunis and the Mediterranean Sea.

Four Cape Town locations rank in the top 10 in Africa, with Cape Point in fourth place (196 162), Bo-Kaap sixth (137 276), Chapman’s Peak eighth (102 193), and V&A Waterfront tenth (89 860).

Dubai picked up all three of the world’s most ‘Instagrammable’ hotspots, with Dubai Mall, the world’s largest mall, taking first place with over 7,2m hashtags.

Dubai Marina (over 6m hashtags) and Dubai City Walk (over 2,5m hashtags) came in second and third place respectively.

Asia also made its mark on the Instagram landscape, with 73% of the world's top 15 Instagram landmarks on the continent. From the night lights of Singapore's Marina Bay Sands (fourth) to the cliffsides in Vietnam's Ha Long Bay (fifth) and both the inside and outside of Malaysia’s Batu Caves (eighth), Asia offers plenty of photogenic locations.

Meanwhile, Europe makes its mark with the coastal views of Ireland's Cliffs of Moher (10th) and the architecture of Barcelona's Park Güell (11th) joining the list of the world’s new Insta-landmarks.

South America's sole entry in the top 15 is São Paulo's Avenida Paulista, ranking seventh.
