Viking Cruises and shipbuilders Fincantieri have announced the world’s first hydrogen-powered cruise ship, which they say is capable of operating with zero emissions.

The Viking Libra, already under construction at Fincantieri’s Ancona shipyard, is scheduled for delivery late in 2026.

The ship, a sister ship in Viking’s ocean fleet, will be propelled by liquefied hydrogen and fuel cells, giving it the ability to operate at up to six megawatts without emissions.

The Viking Astrea, also currently under construction and scheduled for delivery in 2027, will also be hydrogen-powered.
