Air traffic numbers signal global jet set rebound

Airports Council International (ACI) World, which collects airport traffic data each year through its global network of airport operator members, investors, and aviation stakeholders, has published its latest World Airport Traffic Dataset, confirming that international traffic is bouncing back post-COVID.  

Key findings from the report: 

 

  • Global total passenger traffic for 2022 surpassed 6,6 billion, representing an increase of 43,8% from 2021 or a 72,5% recovery of pre-pandemic levels. 

  • The top 20 airports for global passenger traffic, 10 of which are in the United States, represent 18% of global traffic with 1,2 billion passengers. 

  • The biggest jump in the top-20 rankings has been recorded for Heathrow Airport, which moved from 54th to eighth place. 

According to ACI, these are the top-20 busiest airports worldwide:

3.Denver International Airport 

4.Chicago O'Hare International Airport 

5.Dubai International Airport 

6.Los Angeles International Airport 

7.Istanbul Airport 

8.London Heathrow Airport

10.Paris Charles De Gaulle Airport 

11.John F Kennedy International Airport 

12.Harry Reid International Airport 

13.Amsterdam Schiphol Airport 

14.Miami International Airport 

15.Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport

17.Orlando International Airport 

18.Frankfurt International Airport
