SAA has cancelled today’s flight between Johannesburg and Blantyre, Malawi, due to the findings of an audit conducted at Chileka International Airport.
The airline had also cancelled its Saturday flight (19 January). Flight SA 172 and SA 173, scheduled to operate today, have also been cancelled.
The airport remains open, despite some essential services not being fully compliant with the minimum standards required for SAA to operate in accordance with its licensing conditions, according to a statement issued by SAA.
The self-imposed sanction was the airline’s reaction to a Level 1 finding raised by the South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) following a base inspection of SAA operations in Malawi, SACAA said in a statement.
SAA has advised that customers can choose to be re-routed between Johannesburg and Lilongwe (LLW). Customers will be re-accommodated on the following flights:
- SA170 from Johannesburg to Lilongwe
- SA171 from Lilongwe to Johannesburg
Customers who have not been ticketed can choose to be re-booked on to the Lilongwe flight, subject to certain conditions.
