Nine Schengen countries have reportedly been allowed to delay the full roll-out of the Entry/Exit System (EES) after flexibility measures expired on September 6.
According to reports by The Connexion, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Greece, Malta, Portugal, Italy, and Switzerland have been given flexibility to limit biometric checks to smooth border processing.
The changes follow temporary flexibility measures that allowed countries to suspend fingerprint and facial-image collection during periods of heavy congestion at borders, which officially ended on September 6. IATA called on the EU to extend these measures beyond the expiry, warning that removing them before outstanding issues are resolved could lead to further disruption at European borders.
