ELEPHANT Back Safaris’ (EBS) Abu Camp in the Okavango Delta has welcomed a new arrival in the form of a baby elephant bull, born last week. The baby, weighing between 250lbs and 300lbs has been named Abu by EBS ceo, Randall Mall. Abu’s mother is Sirheni and his father is believed to be Mafunyane, the first young bull from the EBS herd to be released into the wild. Guests booking into the Abu camp will be able to meet and walk with the newborn. Little Abu will also provide material on elephant relations to be monitored by the research team based at the nearby Seba Camp. The team is conducting a study on how elephants released back into the wild interact with their surroundings and with the wild herds they encounter. Sue Lewitton (suel@nowmedia.co.za)
