Google Bard enters travel industry

Google is upgrading its generative artificial intelligence (AI) product, Bard, by integrating it with travel apps and services to improve its ability to answer more specific and complex travel requests.

Since September 19, Bard has had access to users’ accounts, including Gmail, Docs and Drive, enabling it to summarise and answers questions about personal details like upcoming travel arrangements.

Bard will also be integrated with Google Maps, Google Flights, Google Hotels and YouTube, and will be able to incorporate real-time data in its responses.

The AI will also allow for its conversations to be shared with other travellers via Bard’s new link-sharing feature.

According to Google, Bard can answer prompts and provide a pro-con list about visiting Lake Tahoe or Yosemite on a weekend trip from San Francisco, as an example. It can then make recommendations such as suggesting a two-day itinerary that includes attractions within walking distance by finding a hotel reservation in a user’s Gmail account and giving them information about surrounding areas.

Google says any personal data that Bard accesses will not be used to train its public-facing model and access can be disabled at any time.
