The Royal Majestic Hotel, previously the Hyatt Regency in Rosebank, Johannesburg, has reopened after closing during the 2020 pandemic. The reopening in Rosebank marks the start of an ambitious expansion strategy, with the group planning to roll out the Royal Majestic brand across additional properties in South Africa.
The hotel is owned by the Bin Otaiba Group, which owns several other properties across the country, including the Hilton Hotel in Durban, Radisson Blu Le Vendome in Cape Town and Park Inn Sandton. The hotels are currently closed except the Hilton, which reopened last year due to pressure from the local municipality, according to The Mail & Guardian.
According to Tana Alma Lancaster, Royal Majestic Head of Marketing and Owner of BrndHaus, plans are now under way to rebrand the Hilton and Park Inn under the Royal Majestic brand as part of the group’s expansion plans.
Rosebank property
Discussing the reopening of the Rosebank hotel, Lancaster said it came at a time when Johannesburg was recovering in terms of travel demand.
“Hospitality is entering a new dimension and finally recovering after the challenges of COVID, with Johannesburg showing renewed, healthy demand for quality accommodation, conferencing and lifestyle offerings. The Rosebank and Sandton nodes are experiencing strong business travel recovery, increased corporate activity, and a growing demand for elevated hotel experiences,” said Lancaster.
The Royal Majestic Hotel in Rosebank features 244 guest rooms and suites, including 15 luxury suites and a Presidential Suite, many of which have been refurbished. Dining venues include the new Citrus Restaurant and The Lounge, which provides a more relaxed dining atmosphere, along with private dining options. The wellness, pool and outdoor garden spaces have also been refined.

Other key amenities include:
- Spa facilities (treatment rooms, Jacuzzi, sauna and steam room)
- Fitness centre
- The Terrace (outdoor dining, romantic evenings and garden events)
- Private dining room
- Meeting rooms and indoor event venue
- Airport transfers and concierge services
Lancaster said they were looking to attract leisure and business travellers, long-stay guests working in or moving to the area, conferencing, workshops and meeting groups, and lifestyle guests looking for dining, events and garden relaxation.
“The Rosebank location positions us perfectly for business and lifestyle travellers who value convenience, safety, and refined comfort,” said Lancaster.
As part of its growth plan, the hotel plans to partner with corporate travel agents and Johannesburg-based companies and renew engagements with the Rosebank and Sandton business districts. “Our goal is to provide a combination of accessibility, elegance and exceptional service, making Royal Majestic a preferred choice again.”
