Istanbul most connected airport

Istanbul is now the world’s “most connected airport”, boasting operations to 309 destinations, according to aviation analytics site, cirium.com. 

When it comes to direct connections, the Turkish hub is followed by three well-known European airports: Frankfurt (296), Paris Charles de Gaulle (282) and Amsterdam (270) in fourth place, a spot it shares with Chicago O’Hare, reports Travel Tomorrow. 

London Heathrow was knocked off the top 10 list by Dubai International, which placed fifth with 269 connections. Last year, Heathrow was in eighth place, however this year it fell by four places to 12th place on Cirium’s list. 

The top 10 airports with the most direct international destinations served are: 

1.Istanbul Airport with 309 connections 

2.Frankfurt Airport with 296 connections 

3.Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport with 282 connections 

4.Amsterdam Schiphol Airport and Chicago O’Hare International Airport with 270 connections each 

5.Dubai International Airport with 269 connections 

6.Dallas Fort Worth International Airport with 261 connections 

7.Shanghai Pudong International Airport with 243 connections 

8.Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport with 237 connections 

9.Rome Leonardo da Vinci Fiumicino Airport with 234 connections 

10.Denver International Airport with 229 connections
