Italian flight disruptions expected today

ITA Airways (the successor to Alitalia) has cancelled at least 200 international and domestic flights due to a nationwide 24-hour strike planned for today, Friday, October 21.

It reportedly plans to minimise disruptions by offering alternative flights at other times. According to tourism site Travelnostop, ITA hopes to offer same-day replacements to 20% of passengers.

Easyjet has warned that other flights also face disruption, with industrial action affecting air traffic control and airport ground-handling services.

It said: “We advise customers travelling to, from or within Italy on Friday, October 21, to allow additional time to travel to and from the airport and to check the status of their fights. Should any flights be cancelled, then we will contact customers via email and SMS.”

According to Italy’s National Civil Aviation Authority, a number of flights will be guaranteed between 07h00 and 10h00, and 18h00 and 21h00.
