Lebombo border partially reopened

The Lebombo Border Post between South Africa and Mozambique has partially reopened to allow traveller movement following recent discussions between South African and Mozambican authorities.

The partial reopening, implemented at 15h00 on Friday, November 8, came after the Border Management Authority (BMA) and Mozambican officials finalised safety measures and protocols to ensure controlled cross-border movement.

Supported by the Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety and other stakeholders, BMA Commissioner Dr Michael Masiapato emphasised the importance of safe operations. “This meeting was critical and provided a strategy for a safe and controlled partial reopening of the border.”

Initially limited to travellers, the port resumed cargo operations on Saturday, November 9, after Mozambican authorities addressed processing system challenges.

The BMA has urged travellers to remain cautious and stay informed of travel updates when planning trips to Mozambique.

The country has been experiencing protests following the country’s election results.
