Lufthansa plans to hire 10 000 workers by 2023, in response to the staff-shortages that have led to thousands of flight cancellations this year.
In a presentation to investors announcing the group's second-quarter earnings, CEO Carsten Spohr said Lufthansa planned to hire 5 000 new employees in the second half of 2022, and a similar number in 2023, reports Business Insider.
The vast majority of the new hires will reportedly be in cockpit and cabin crew, as well as ground personnel at the group's six airport hubs.
The airline was also deploying employees from other airports to its hub in Frankfurt where the operational problems remained the greatest, Spohr said.
