Mallorca’s capital, Palma, has introduced a series of bans and restrictions across the municipality to promote sustainable tourism.
Palma’s mayor has implemented a ban on new tourist rentals. If current rental permits are cancelled, new permits will not be issued.
The opening of new hostels will also be banned and existing ones will be encouraged to convert into hotels or residential housing, according to Majorca Daily Bulletin.
Party boats are expected to be banned from next summer. The city council is working with the Balearic Ports Authority to determine how the restriction will be enforced.
Palma City Council has prepared the amendment to implement the bans, which will take effect three months after its approval.
