Marriott, Starwood merger to go ahead

After an uncertain few weeks, with Marriott and Anbang in a bidding war to take over Starwood, shareholders of Starwood Hotels and Resorts have approved a revised merger between Marriott and the hotel group – a significant step towards closing the deal that will see Marriott become the world’s largest hotel company.

“The transaction remains on track to close mid-2016 pending completion of Starwood’s planned divestiture of its timeshare business expected on or around April 30, 2016,” Marriott International said in a statement.
