Security guards in India’s airports have been told by their superiors to cut down on smiling, for fear their friendly nature could lead to lax security.
The country’s Central Industrial Security Force has asked its employees to move from a system of ‘broad smiles’ to a system of ‘sufficient smiles’.
This is not the first time India’s law enforcement authorities have been told to improve. In July, the Karnataka State Reserve Police were told to lose weight or face suspension, and in 2004 police in the central Madhya Pradesh region were told to grow moustaches, with bosses believing the facial hair commanded more respect.
