New-name airline on track for Dec launch

Last month, industry maverick and founder of kulula.com, Gidon Novick, asked South Africans to name his new airline.

More than 25 000 airline names were put forward and Gidon says the team has now made a selection, to be announced this week.

Travel News caught up with Gidon and he says the venture is still on track to launch this December, with the initial route of Johannesburg-Cape Town. He also confirmed that a booking system for the new airline would follow in the next few weeks, which would enable customers to start booking their December flights.

“We want to assure our agent partners that our booking platform will include agent functionality from the outset. We are also looking at displaying our fares in the GDS, either independently or in partnership with Hahn Air,” said Gidon.

This is a developing story. Travel News will publish the new airline’s name as soon as it is announced.
