R80m refurb for Cape Town property
THE 16-bedroom Leeuwenvoet guesthouse in Tamboerskloof, Cape
Town, is being transformed into a 53-room hotel and spa. R80m
has been invested in the Cloud 9 Boutique Hotel and Spa, which
connects five heritage properties through a central reception and
secluded courtyard. Facilities will include a spa with five treatment
rooms, elevator, room service, 24-hour reception, parking, security,
sundeck, hot tub and plunge pools. The hotel will offer a rooftop bar,
three on-site restaurants, an art gallery and a library.


Maldives welcomes InterContinental
INTERCONTINENTAL Hotels Group, in partnership with Hotel
Properties Limited, will open its first property in the Maldives in
the next three to five years. The 83-room InterContinental Maldives
Maamunagau Resort will be located on the southern point of Raa
Atoll. Travellers will be able to take a seaplane directly to the resort
from Malé’s Ibrahim Nasir International Airport. The resort will have
an all-day-dining restaurant, bar, Club Lounge, pool and spa. Water
activities, including snorkelling, canoeing and jet skiing, will also be
available at the nearby sea sports centre

African hotel group plans three new properties
TRAVELODGE plans to open three new hotels in Kasane, Ghanzi and
Palapye in Botswana. A new 64-room hotel is expected to open in
Kasane this year. Justin Jose, head of Project Development told
TNW the opening was pending the granting of a hotel licence. The
new property will have a swimming pool, conference facility that can
accommodate up to 150 delegates, and a restaurant. The hotel will
be 3km from the airport, near Chobe Game Reserve. Construction of
the 52-room Travelodge Ghanzi is expected to commence in the first
quarter of this year. It will be 2km from Ghanzi CBD along the TransKalahari
highway. A third planned development, Travelodge Palapye,
will offer 100 rooms and a 400-seat conference centre. This
development is undergoing an environmental impact assessment.


W Cape hotel to open in August
A NEW hotel, The Old Rectory, owned and managed by Rare Earth,
is set to open in Plettenberg Bay in August. The Rectory was built
in 1776 and is being restored and transformed into an 18-room
boutique hotel. Facilities will include a swimming pool, bar,
restaurant and library. The hotel is close to the beach and is about
a 15-minute drive from Plettenberg Bay Airport. Complimentary
transfers to the airport and to town will be offered to guests, as well
as packed beach lunches.
Hilton to debut in Paraguay
HILTON Hotels and Resorts has signed an agreement with business
conglomerate, Grupo Cartes, to manage a new-build hotel and
residences in Asuncion, Paraguay. Set to open its doors in 2021,
the Hilton Asuncion will have 180 guest rooms and 50 residences.
It will feature three restaurants, a bar, café, spa, swimming pool,
fitness centre, ballroom and a business centre with three meeting
rooms and two boardrooms. The hotel will be less than 10km from
Silvio Pettirossi International Airport. The building will also house
broadcasting and corporate offices.


New tents for Tangala Safari Camp
TANGALA Safari Camp in Thornybush Game Reserve, Limpopo,
has added six tents to its accommodation offering. Each tent
accommodates two adults in either a twin or double configuration
and has an en-suite bathroom and a viewing deck. Three tents
overlook the Drakensberg mountains and a waterhole and the
others overlook a river. Facilities at the camp include an openplan
lounge and dining room, open-air deck, swimming pool and
a viewing lounge, all overlooking the waterhole. Activities include
early-morning and evening safaris.


Refurb at Namibian resort
WINDHOEK Country Club Resort is upgrading the Kokerboom
restaurant. During the renovation, all meals will be served on
the banqueting terrace and in a marquee overlooking the Auas
Mountains. The restaurant is expected to reopen on March 1.
Refurbishment of the rooms at the resort is near completion.
