SA airlines bag Skytrax awards

Four South African airlines have received recognition in Skytrax's World Airline Awards.

South African Airways was ranked the third-best carrier in Africa and also won 'Cleanest Airline in Africa’. The cleanliness award is based on ratings of the standard and quality of cleanliness and presentation in aircraft cabins, seat areas, carpets and washrooms.

LIFT won 'Best Low-Cost Airline in Africa', making it the youngest African airline to receive a World Airline Award.

“We are absolutely thrilled to receive our first-ever Skytrax Award! Winning the ‘Best Low-Cost Airline in Africa’ is a huge feat for our domestic airline that has been around for just shy of four years”, says Jonathan Ayache, LIFT CEO.

Four South African airlines were placed in the 'Best Airlines in Africa 2024' category, with Ethiopian Airlines in first place.

The top ten ‘Best Airlines in Africa 2024’ are:

  1. Ethiopian Airlines. It also won 'Best Airline in Africa', 'Best Business Class in Africa', 'Best Economy Class in Africa' and 'Best Economy Class Onboard Catering in Africa';
  2. Royal Air Maroc, which also garnered 'Best Regional Airline in Africa';
  3. South African Airways, not only came third, but also 'Cleanest Airline in Africa';
  4. Kenya Airways also received 'Best Airline Staff in Africa' and 'Best Cabin Crew in Africa';
  5. RwandAir;
  6. Air Mauritius gained sixth place plus 'Best Business Class Onboard Catering in Africa';
  7. EgyptAir was in seventh place and also was 'Most Improved Airline in Africa';
  8. Airlink;
  9. LIFT was overall ninth in Africa and 'Best Low-Cost Airline in Africa';

Speaking of Ethiopian’s first place in Africa, Ethiopian Airlines Group CEO, Mesfin Tasew said: "We remain at the forefront of the aviation industry by continually adopting cutting-edge technology to elevate our passengers’ experience."
