SAA board member quits, cites breakdown in relations

Lindi Nkosi-Thomas has resigned from her position as director of the SAA board.

Lindi told eTNW that she resigned because of her busy law practice as well as breakdown in the professional relationship with “certain members” of the board. According to a report in the Business Day, these members include ceo, Monwabisi Kalawe.

The report also suggests Lindi's resignation came after the discovery that SAA management had undertaken an investigation of the board, although this was denied by SAA spokesman, Tlali Tlali.

Last year, Lindi was subjected to an investigation by the Johannesburg Bar Council for allegedly doctoring legal opinion that led to the dismissal of SAA senior employees, including then acting ceo, Vuyisile Kona.

When eTNW asked Lindi about these allegations, she commented: “I deny that allegation to the extent that it imputes any act of impropriety on my part.” She added that the matter had been reported to the Johannesburg Bar Council for investigation and she had since been cleared.

Mayihlome Tshwete, ministerial spokesperson for the Department of Public Enterprises, did not say when Lindi would be replaced, but said the process to replace her was on-going. Mayihlome added that the ministry had faith that the existing board members understood that they were expected to prioritise realising the airline’s turnaround strategy.
