SAX gets more time

SA Express has been granted a three-month extension by the high court to remain in provisional liquidation, despite its liquidators being a no-show at the standing committee on public accounts (Scopa) virtual meeting yesterday (June 9).

The liquidators and BRPs were set to brief Scopa on SAX’s liquidation process but did not show up, according to the committee members.

Mkhuleko Hlengwa, chairperson of Scopa, said: “The kind of behaviour we are seeing does not inspire confidence from where I am seated. They are gambling with the sustainable livelihoods of workers on the one hand, and testing the already fragile South African economy on the other.”

Mkhuleko confirmed the liquidators would be called to appear before the committee next Wednesday (June 17) and said he would seek permission for the issuing of subpoenas to summon them, if necessary.
