Singapore haze reaches hazardous levels

The UK government has advised travellers to be aware of the high levels of pollution in Singapore currently, caused by land clearance fires in Indonesia.

Because of the high levels of pollution from the fires, travellers are advised to monitor the Pollutant Standards Index updates and health advisories from the Singapore National Environment Agency (NEA). The levels overall have been sitting in the 200s, which is classified as ‘very unhealthy’. Earlier this week the levels reached 300, which is classified as ‘hazardous’.

According to the NEA, the smoke haze has affected Singapore since June 13 and is expected to persist over the next few days. Because of the high levels, the NEA has recommended that people with heart and lung problems as well as children and older adults should remain indoors and keep activity levels low. It also advises everyone else to avoid physical activity outdoors.

Flights have not been affected.
