VS plans premium-heavy fleet refit

Virgin Atlantic will roll out a premium-heavy seating configuration across its fleet from 2028.

Speaking at a media event in Johannesburg on October 29, Marc Harding, Virgin Atlantic’s Country Manager for South Africa, said the airline would increase the number of Upper Class and Premium seats while reducing economy seating across its fleet of B787s, A350s and A330s.

The retrofitting project will begin in 2028 and is expected to take three years to complete.

Harding said the airline’s Upper Class and Premium cabins were particularly popular on its long-haul flight routes, including to and from Johannesburg and Cape Town, and trans-Atlantic services.

Additionally, from 2026, Virgin Atlantic will install Starlink in-flight connectivity across its fleet, as reported by Travel News.
