Airlines introduce child-free zones

While the idea of an entirely adult-only flight may not be viable, two airlines have introduced child-free zones on flights.

AirAsia X offers the Quiet Zone on its A330 long-haul flights, while Singapore-based low-cost airline, Scoot, offers its own version of the child-free zone with its ScootinSilence cabin.

According to Airline Ratings, a child-free zone, also known as a quiet zone or adult-only section, is a designated area on an aircraft where passengers must be aged 12 and older. These areas, usually at the front of the cabin, allow older passengers to relax, work or rest during their flight without potential disruption from young children.

The procedure of booking a seat in one of these zones is similar to standard seat selection, where travellers select and pay at the time of booking. With the zones being at the front of the aircraft, passengers can enjoy early disembarkation, while Scoot’s version is also equipped with features like additional leg-room and adjustable headrests.
