LUX* Resorts and
Hotels ceo, Paul Jones,
was in South Africa in
last month and, with his
general managers, chefs
and staff, visited various
entrepreneurs in and
around Cape Town for what
he dubbed an “innovation
safari” – a look at how
young entrepreneurs stay
fresh and inspired.
“Cape Town is the design
capital of Africa and a
microcosm of food and
beverage,” Paul said. “We’ve
become quite successful
since rebranding from
Naïade Resorts to LUX*, but
we want to keep innovating.
The enemy of success is
complacency, and that’s
why we’re here – to gain
inspiration and go back to
Mauritius with new ideas to
implement.”
Speaking to TNW on the
sidelines of the recent
LUX* Resorts and Hotels
roadshow at Randlords in
Braamfontein on May 27,
Paul said the idea was not
to copy what was being
done but rather to meet
some passionate people
who love what they do, and
inspire that same type of
culture among LUX* staff.
“The customer of today is
always looking for what is
fresh and what is in tune
with their lifestyle today, and
not something from 10 or
20 years ago,” he said.
According to Paul, LUX*
had a debt of MUR7bn
(R3bn) when the company
first rebranded. It has since
brought this debt down to
MUR3bn (R1,3bn).
