Dubrovnik to charge day-tripper fee

Dubrovnik is to implement a daily quota and entrance fee for day trippers from 2026.

Dubrovnik’s Mayor, Mato Frankovic, told The Independent that from the beginning of next year, travellers would have to make a reservation for the day and time they would be visiting the city.

Additionally, the city will charge an entrance fee of €40 (R820) per day. Called the Dubrovnik Pass, the levy will cover the entrance fees for museums, galleries and monasteries as well as the maintenance of the city walls.

This follows multiple other measure to reduce the impact of overtourism, including a limit on calling cruise ships and a booking system for coach operators to visit the city.
