TAT closes SA office

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) will close its doors in South Africa on September 30, following a business decision to consolidate its operations and shift focus.

The announcement was made in a letter to trade partners, noting that all future marketing activities for the South African market will be overseen by the TAT Dubai office.

“This is not the first time we’ve had to share a similar update and definitely not ‘third time lucky’ in our journey,” the office wrote. “Due to a challenging business decision and TAT’s renewed focus, the Thailand Tourism Office in South Africa will officially close its doors.”

Despite the closure, the office acknowledged the growth achieved in the market, pointing to a 3% increase in tourism from South Africa to Thailand over the past year.
