Following a major fire at the LUX* Belle Mare on the east coast of Mauritius on Saturday morning, July 2, TLC Vacations, which represents the group in South Africa, has told Travel News that all guests were successfully evacuated and are being looked after by the hotel group and transferred to other properties.

Forward bookings are being relocated to other hotels and the process is being well managed, says the operator. TLC Vacations says its staff are in contact with every client to keep them in the picture.

According to UK publication Travel Weekly, 380 holidaymakers from different countries were evacuated to the beach as the flames swept through the luxury resort, fanned by strong winds.

It is believed that about 80% of the property has been destroyed and assessors are presently on site. The property is closed until further notice.
