Northern Ireland calls for ETA exemption

The UK Parliament's Northern Ireland Affairs Committee has called for customers of approved tour operators to be exempted from the UK's Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) requirement.

In a letter to the UK Government, the committee warned that the £20 (R446) ETA fee and additional administration could prompt operators to exclude Northern Ireland from itineraries combining the destination with the Republic of Ireland.

The committee proposed withdrawing the exemption from operators found to be abusing the system, arguing that the measure would help protect Northern Ireland's tourism and hospitality sectors.
