Viking unveils new Egypt itinerary

Viking has opened bookings for its new 19-day Grand Nile Journey, combining a hotel stay in Cairo with a 14-night Nile River cruise on the all-suite Viking Ra. Departures will begin in 2028, offering travellers a more extensive exploration of Egypt's ancient landmarks and less-visited archaeological sites.

The itinerary includes four hotel nights in Cairo, where guests will visit the Great Pyramids of Giza, the Great Sphinx and the Grand Egyptian Museum. The journey continues south along the Nile, with 17 guided tours showcasing Egypt's history, culture and heritage.

Beyond the iconic landmarks

The itinerary explores destinations in Middle Egypt, including the Meidum Pyramid, the Noblemen's Tombs of Beni Hasan and Tell el-Amarna, the remains of a former royal capital established by Pharaoh Akhenaten. Guests will also visit Deir el-Muharraq monastery, a significant site in Egypt's Coptic Christian heritage.

Further south, highlights include the temples of Luxor and Karnak, the royal tombs of the Valley of the Kings and the Temple of Seti I at Abydos. In Aswan, guests can explore the Philae temple complex, visit the monumental temples of Abu Simbel and sail the Nile aboard a traditional felucca.

The Viking Ra accommodates 52 guests in 26 suites and was purpose-built for sailing the Nile.

Travellers wishing to extend their stay can add pre- or post-cruise land packages, including a two-night Cairo extension, a five-night guided tour of Morocco or a four-night guided journey through Jordan, including the Dead Sea, Petra and Amman.
