Emirates Airline has terminated its strategic partnership with
Angola’s national carrier, TAAG Angola Airlines, citing the
difficulty of repatriating sales proceeds as the main reason.
“In light of the prevailing situation, I can confirm that Emirates
is no longer able to process its strategic partnership with
TAAG, with immediate effect,” said Emirates president,
Sir Timothy Clark in a letter to Angola’s Minister of Transport.
Emirates has also reduced its scheduled flights to Luanda with
immediate effect. Neither Emirates nor TAAG could be reached
for comment at the time of going to print, but travel agents
say it is unlikely the termination of the contract will affect
TAAG flights from South Africa then onwards to Portugal.
