SOUTH African travel agents can now book Airlink-marketed through- itineraries from the airline’s domestic network to Doha following the expansion of its codeshare with Qatar Airways. Effective August 31, Airlink placed its 4Z code on Qatar Airways-operated services from Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban to Doha. The development reciprocates the airlines’ 2022 codeshare agreement, under which Qatar Airways places its QR code on all Airlink-operated domestic sectors and selected regional routes, including destinations in Botswana, Mozambique, Namibia, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Qatar Airways operates twice-daily flights between Johannesburg and Doha and ten weekly services from Cape Town. Its daily Durban-Doha service operates via Maputo. “This codeshare is an important initial element in Airlink’s expanded network and market-reach strategy. It strengthens the airline’s market relevance and, leveraging Qatar Airways’ global presence, opens unparalleled connectivity opportunities for its customers,” says de Villiers Engelbrecht, CEO of Airlink. The partnership also covers the airlines’ loyalty programmes. Airlink Skybucks members can earn and redeem Skybucks, while Qatar Airways Privilege Club members can earn and redeem Avios on flights operated by either airline. Over the coming months, Airlink’s 4Z code is expected to be added to Qatar Airways services beyond Doha, extending the through-booking options to destinations across the Gulf carrier’s global network. Qatar Airways has a 25% shareholding in Airlink, which it acquired in 2024.
