CI has an Asian cruise for every client

ASIA continues to be an important growth region across Cruises International’s portfolio, with products spanning mainstream, premium and luxury cruising. “The region offers a unique combination of value, diversity, accessibility and cultural richness, making it attractive across multiple traveller segments,” Thaybz Khan, Head of Commercial at Cruises International, told Travel News. For families and first-time cruisers, Royal Caribbean’s Singapore-based sailings remain strong performers, offering exceptional value and the opportunity to experience multiple destinations within a single holiday. Celebrity Cruises appeals to travellers seeking a more premium experience, combining destination-rich itineraries with elevated dining, accommodation and service. Within the luxury sector, Oceania Cruises continues to resonate strongly with South African travellers thanks to its destination- focused itineraries, smaller ships and renowned culinary offerings. Azamara appeals to guests seeking deeper destination immersion through longer stays and more time in port, while Crystal and Seabourn attract discerning travellers looking for highly personalised luxury experiences throughout the region. “We continue to see strong investment in Asia across our cruise lines with refreshed itineraries and deployment focused on key destinations such as Singapore, Japan and China. From a South African perspective, there has been growing interest in longer, more immersive itineraries, particularly within the premium and luxury sectors,” Khan said. Southeast Asia According to Khan, Southeast Asia continues to outperform the other regions, particularly itineraries centred on Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam and Malaysia. “Singapore remains an exceptionally strong gateway for South Africans due to its accessibility. The ability to experience multiple countries, cultures and cuisines within a single cruise trip creates a compelling value proposition. “We are also seeing growing interest in Japan, particularly amongst repeat cruisers and luxury travellers seeking unique cultural experiences, seasonal travel opportunities and more immersive itineraries.” Brands Royal Caribbean continues to drive significant volume into the region due to its strong brand recognition, family appeal and value proposition. Within the premium and luxury sectors, Celebrity Cruises and Oceania Cruises were performing particularly well, said Khan. “South African travellers are increasingly seeking experiences rather than simply destinations and these brands offer a strong combination of immersive itineraries, exceptional service and differentiated onboard experiences. “We are also seeing growing interest in luxury brands such as Crystal and Seabourn amongst experienced travellers looking for smaller ships, personalised service and destination-rich voyages.” Experiences Food, culture and authentic local experiences continue to be major drivers of demand. “South African travellers are increasingly seeking meaningful travel experiences, whether that is exploring historic sites in Vietnam, experiencing the culinary scene in Singapore, discovering Japan’s unique culture or enjoying the natural beauty of destinations throughout Southeast Asia,” said Khan. “There is also growing demand for longer stays in port and more immersive shore experiences, particularly amongst premium and luxury travellers.” Demand drivers Khan believes the region appeals to both first-time and experienced cruisers, which broadens its market potential considerably. “The easy airlift and visa- free destinations are also contributing factors.” She expects Asia cruise demand to continue growing steadily over the next two to three years. “Improved air access, growing awareness of the region and increasing demand for culturally immersive travel experiences will continue to support growth. Asia remains one of the most exciting opportunities for cruise growth from the South African market. “Whether travelling with family on Royal Caribbean, enjoying premium experiences with Celebrity Cruises or exploring the region through the destination- focused approach of Oceania, Azamara, Crystal or Seabourn, Asia offers something truly distinctive for today’s traveller,” said Khan
