India makes changes to e-visa scheme

INDIA has made changes to
its e-visa scheme.
Previously only for
tourists, the e-visa has
now been subdivided into
three categories: e-Tourist,
e-Business and e-Medical
visas, effective April 1.
According to the
Government of India’s
online visa website, the
validity of the e-visa (which
applies from the date of
arrival in India) has also
been increased from 30 to
60 days. Double entry is
permitted on the e-Tourist
and e-Business visas. Triple
entry will be permitted
on e-Medical visas. The
window for an e-visa
application has also been
upped from 30 to 120
days and travellers may
apply online for the e-visa a
minimum four days ahead
of the date of arrival.
Once the e-Visa has
been paid for and granted,
travellers will be issued
with an Electronic Travel
Authorisation (ETA) via
email. Travellers must carry

a copy of the ETA during
the time of travel and
must confirm that its
status was shown as
‘granted’ on the website
prior to travel.
Biometric details of the
applicant will be captured
by immigration on arrival
in India.
The e-visa is valid
for entry through 24
designated airports
including Ahmedabad,
Calicut, Chennai, Delhi,
Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kolkata,
Mangalore and Mumbai.
