MSC Cruises has announced that sales are open for MSC Opera’s new year-round cruises from La Romana, Dominican Republic, which will begin in November. This is the first time MSC has offered year-round sailing in the southern Caribbean.
Gianni Onorato, CEO of MSC Cruises, said: “With year-round operations we extend the traditional season, bringing positive economic impact to the local community and bringing 120 000 additional international visitors to La Romana each year.”
The ship’s inaugural itinerary will be a seven-day southern Caribbean voyage with the option to extend the cruise to a back-to-back 14-night ‘butterfly’ cruise.
Some of the highlights include:
- La Romana, where guests can visit beaches, local craft shops, enjoy seafood and have access to Altos de Chavón, a 16th century Mediterranean-inspired village.
- Catalina Island, known for its crystal-clear waters and sandy white beaches, ideal for snorkelling and sunbathing.
- Fort-de-France, renowned for its natural wonders, historic charm and beaches, with excursions to markets, shops and a famous rum distillery.
- Virgin Gorda, to explore the British Virgin Islands’ famous Baths and hike in Gorda Peak National Park.
- Saint John’s, the capital of Antigua and Barbuda, to see colourful architecture, historic landmarks, and beaches.
