United adds couch-style economy seats

United Airlines will introduce a set of economy seats that can transform into a couch, creating what it describes as a more comfortable option for passengers on long-haul flights.

The United Relax Row is a dedicated row of three seats with individually adjustable leg rests that fold up to create more room to sleep and stretch out. Customers travelling in United Relax Row will receive additional amenities including a custom-fitted mattress pad, a specially sized plush blanket, two additional pillows, as well as a plush toy and children's travel kit for families.

The new seats are expected to launch in 2027, and will be available on more than 200 Boeing 787 and 777 widebody aircraft by 2030. Twelve United Relax Row sections will be available on each aircraft and will be located between the Economy and Premium Plus cabins.
