United to add 250 aircraft

United Airlines plans to take delivery of more than 250 new aircraft over the next two years to modernise its fleet and introduce new onboard products.

New aircraft joining the fleet between now and April 2028 include:

  • 47 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners: 99 premium seats, including the debut of United Polaris Studio, with seats 25% larger than the standard Polaris seat. The inaugural international flight with the Polaris Studio is April 22 from San Francisco to Singapore, with 33 additional aircraft to be fitted by 2028.
  • 40 Airbus A321neo Coastliners: 20 new, all-aisle-access lie-flat seats in United Polaris, 12 United Premium Plus seats and 129 United Economy seats. There is space for a snack bar in the rear of the aircraft, so passengers in Economy can help themselves to food and beverages during their flight.
  • 28 Airbus A321XLR: 32 premium seats, including a new all-aisle-access lie-flat United Polaris suite with a privacy door. The aircraft will replace United's Boeing 757 fleet on some international routes starting this summer.

The airline will also take delivery of 119 Boeing 737 MAX and 18 Airbus A321neos.
