Update: Pakistan Airspace closed

Since publication Pakistan has reopened its airspace, with restrictions, according to the Civil Aviation Authority of Pakistan. Air space in Karachi, Peshawar, Quetta International, and Islamabad International have opened, with restrictions still in place at other airports.

Pakistan has closed its airspace until further notice after tensions with India escalated this week, forcing several airlines to reroute flights to and from the region.

On Tuesday, India said its air force had conducted strikes against a militant camp in Pakistani territory, as part of the ongoing dispute over Kashmir, a state in northern India. Pakistan reciprocated with a strike into Indian-controlled territory, which saw two Indian jets being shot down, CNBC reports.

Qatar Airways warns of delayed or suspended flights to Peshawar, Faisalabad, Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore, Multan and Sialkot as a result. The carrier advises customers to monitor the Qatar Airways website for further information, and also to update their contact details.

Singapore Airlines will also reroute flights scheduled to overfly the affected airspace “but are due to operate as scheduled at this point,” says a statement released by the carrier.

Thai Airways, also affected by the closure, has resumed operations into Europe. The carrier received permission to operate its flights through Chinese airspace. Travellers are advised to check the airline’s official website for updated information. Customers may also rebook their flights at no additional charge.
