United has added a new standby feature to its mobile app, allowing passengers who are rebooked after a disruption to join the standby list for up to three earlier flights.
Instead of repeatedly checking the app to see if seats open up on earlier flights, United automatically monitors availability and sends a text when one becomes available.
Passengers can then choose whether to switch to the earlier flight, while keeping their original confirmed reservation until they make a decision.
